‘Chip’ your way to a cash prize this weekend
Gathering around the 19th hole, some duffers have been known to stretch the truth a bit when it comes to their ability to make par. This weekend area golfers will have a chance to turn those words into action and prove their stuff when the Ladies Auxiliary of the Pine Island American Legion will offer an opportunity to turn tales into legends. All duffers are welcome to participate in the third annual One Hole Golf Outing staged in the backyard of the American Legion Post 136 beginning at 8 a.m. and running throughout the afternoon hours. For a small entry fee, participants will be provided with clubs and balls as well as the use of a golf cart and a caddy. Also on hand will be resident pros who will offer chipping advice for seasoned and amateur golfers alike. In addition to cash prizes, one lucky golfer will win a chipping wedge donated by Dr. Watson’s Liquor Store and Wild Turkey.
Golfers as well as spectators will want to plan to stay for the day as the Legion organizers will have plenty of other activities to keep folks busy. Beginning at 8 a.m. the volunteer cooks from the Legion kitchen will offer a continental breakfast up until 11 a.m. This will be followed by a lunch and for $6 attendees can purchase hamburgers or brats along with side dishes.
The fun will continue with live entertainment provided by area musicians, Skunk Monkey and Cindy Walsh. Whether you plan to golf or just root on a favorite player, several raffle prizes will be up for grabs. Among them will be numerous gift certificates provided by area merchants including Bubba’s Roadhouse, Miceli’s Restaurant, I Ragazzi Pizza, Little Lilly’s Island Deli and more.
All proceeds from this event will benefit veterans charities and for more information, call the American Legion Post 136 in St. James City at 283-4434.
