39th annual PIAA Art Show and Sale this weekend
Each year at this time, local novice and experienced artists put their best paint brushes forward and invite all to view the fruits of their labors. Throughout the year, students and members of the Pine Pine Art Association work tirelessly to prepare displays of wall art in a variety of mediums for showing during its annual Fine Art Show and Sale. Staged at the Community Building in the Matlacha Park, more than 100 artist works will be on display on Saturday, Feb. 12, and Sunday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to walk among the works of art, meet many of the artists and perhaps purchase a piece to take home.
“The Show and Sale has become the largest event on Greater PIne Island that draws attendees from all over Southwest Florida,” said Art Association member Phyllis Dowd. “At this year’s show, you will find a large selection of landscapes, seascapes, birds, flowers, fish and wildlife. There will be watercolors, acrylics, oil and pastels painted by many talented and experienced artists. The subject matter of these paintings and the warm colors used, evoke the spirit of this laid back paradise and paintings purchased at the show become treasured possessions in homes and collections throughout the area.”
Dowd also said all of the works available for purchase have been professionally framed and are ready to hang.
For those with limited space for wall art, also available during the Art Show and Sale will be a wide selection of original “mini” paintings. These small pieces measure just 3-1/2 X 4-1/2 inches and all come double matted. According to Dowd these minis are often purchased as gifts or keepsakes and because of their compact size are easily shipped or packed in a carry-on flight bag. The minis will be on sale for $10 including tax. Also available for purchase are frame kits designed specifically to fit the minis and are available for $10 as well.
While the membership, of the Art Association, as well as the participation in the show, has grown over the years, Dowd said that it has maintained its air of island hospitality.
“Over the years, the Pine Island Art Association Show has grown, but the comfortable, welcoming atmosphere remains,” Dowd said. “At the show, the members will greet you at the door and invite you to sample their home-baked good after you see their work. The artists will be there to talk to you and it will be a trip back in time to a Florida that is rapidly disappearing.”
Art Association president Vicki Warner, an artist in her own right, is also impressed with the works being offered at this year’s show and sale.
“We are very fortunate to have not only the students participating, but also some of our instructors and other well-noted area artists,” Warner said. “In past years, the response from those attending the show and sale has always been very positive and I am sure this year will be the same as our artists are sure to offer something for everyone.”
Warner also will have several works in acrylic on display at this year’s show and sale.
Classes are offered in a variety of mediums throughout the year at the Art Association building located in the Matlacha Community Park and membership is open to anyone who desires to expand their abilities or develop a new talent.
