Royer promoted to senior chief machinery technician

Chad L. Royer, son of Norma and Ron Royer of St. James City, was recently promoted to Senior Chief Machinery Technician, the second highest enlisted rank in the Coast Guard.
He is currently serving as a recruiter-in-charge of the Coast Guard’s Harrisburg Recruiting Office. This office is responsible for all Coast Guard enlistments and officer selection in 31 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties.
Royer, 36, is a native of Slatington, PA. He joined the Coast Guard in 1993 and has served aboard the Coast Guard cutters Escanaba, Sotris and Osage. These seagoing assignments earned him the Coast Guard’s coveted Cutterman badge. He also served at the Port Clarence LORAN station in Alaska, the small boat station at Oswego, NY and at Group Philadelphia before assuming his current position. Chad was recently deployed to LA at assist in the Deepwater Horizon cleanup effort. Chad’s prior awards include the Coast Guard Commendation medal, Coast Guard Achievement medal and the 9/11 ribbon for service during the World Trade Center disaster.
Chad, along with his wife, Heather and daughter, Coralyn, will be transferred to Arlington, VA in June, 2011.
