First Creative Coast Concert of the season to feature Michelle Bundy
Bringing back a popular free concert series, local and regional performers will be featured during this year’s Creative Coast Concerts. The first of the season event will take place on Friday, Nov. 12 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Olde Fish House in Matlacha. Organizer Kip Lawrence is pleased to present Micelle Bundy.
“In the kitchen at Bert’s Bar and Grill, you can sometimes hear an angelic voice singing country classics as she cooks up your dinner. Upon further review you will find it comes from a cook and waitress with blond hair and a beautiful smile,” said Lawrence. “Her name is Michelle Bundy, a singer/songwriter with a voice which reminds one of a young Patsy Cline.”
According to Lawrence, Bundy has performed as the opening act for country favorite Blake Shelton and the group, Asleep at the Wheel, while a member of the group, “The Homegrown Band” from Lincoln, Nebraska.
Growing up in the midwest, Bundy moved to Matlacha with her family four years ago. After having not performed before an audience in more than 12 years, Bundy recently found herself being encouraged and mentored by Lawrence.
“Kip has been really great. Not only did he help me to get a guitar and a pick-up, he has dedicated many hours to practice with me and I am really looking forward to our performance at the Olde Fish House,” Bundy said. “We will be doing several familiar county music songs, but the one I am looking forward to doing most is an original duet written my Kip that we will do together.”
Performing as a solo act and with Lawrence and Brian Travis of the Yard Dogs, this will be Bundy’s debut appearance in Matlacha.
“Michelle will be doing some country classics while backed up by me and she also will be doing a few of her own original songs,” Lawrence said. “Come on out and cheer on a newcomer to the Matlacha stage while enjoying the beautiful vibes of downtown Matlacha.”
During the evening, Olde Fish House will offer fresh fish and other entrees for sale, however, coolers will be welcome and all are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
“A lot of people on the island remember the free outdoor concerts that used to be held at the old hardware store in St. James City. This was a great way for newcomers to perform in front of an audience and gain some recognition. That is why I decided to bring that same format back and the Olde Fish House has been the perfect venue,” said Lawrence. “Since we began holding the Creative Coast Concerts they have been very well attended and ends up being a great time for not only those who attended, but for the musicians as well. I am sure that Michelle will develop a big following after performing this weekend and I expect we will see more of her in the area very soon.”
The Creative Coast Concerts are free of charge and ample parking is available.
