Well-traveled lecturer and author, Matlacha resident Robert Macomber will add yet another stop on his travel itinerary this fall. Macomber will journey to the NATO headquarters in Belgium where he will be the guest of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe, Admiral James Stavridis and will address senior command staff at both the Belgium and German Headquarters just prior to the upcoming NATO Summit.

According to Macomber, his audience will consist of the highest ranking officers from 28 countries world-wide.

“I am very appreciative of being selected for this honor, particularly at this time, when NATO is a war and facing significant military and political challenges,” said Macomber. “I am proud to do my small part for this great organization that has kept Europe in peace for 61 years.”

NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, is a political-military alliance of 28 nations established on April 4, 1949. NATO currently has troops battling in Afghanistan and naval personnel on piracy patrol in the waters off Somalia.

Macomber, not only a local celebrity, is a nationally acclaimed novelist and conducts lectures around the world. He also is a commentator for Florida PBS documentaries, and does consulting work. He also serves as an annual Distinguished Lecturer at the Center for Army Analysis at Fort Belvoir, near Washington, D.C., was named to the Notable Author Lecture Series at the United States Southern Command and has lectured at the Office of Naval Intelligence and various other defense organizations.

Following his visit to NATO Headquarters, Macomber will set sail from Portugal aboard the Seabourn Line’s Sojourn as the guest author and lecturer for a two-week voyage across the Atlantic before returning to Florida.

Macomber is the author of the “Honor” series, a historical fiction series that follows his main character Peter Wake through is military experiences and adventures world-wide. A believer in first-hand knowledge, Macomber’s research has taken him to the far reaches of the globe including Asia, Europe, South and Central America, Australia and more. His latest book, “Honor Bound” is slated to be release in the spring of 2011. In this book, the scene is set in the year 1888 and finds Wake in St. Augustine, Southwest Florida, Key West, the Bahamas and Haiti. In this volume, Wake finds himself reunited with a beautiful woman from his past, however, with her she brings a plea for his help.

“Honor Bound was a difficult project to research and write, but worth every minute of the danger and hassles. Those who have followed Wake’s adventures may remember that in the summer of 2009, I reported nearly dying on a Caribbean mountain top while leading an expedition to so some eyeball recon for a future novel,” Macomber said. “This is that novel.”

According to Macomber, the official book launching of Honor Bound will be the Annual Pine Island Reader Rendezvous on March 26, at Woody’s Waterside in St. James City. In the past, this event has attracted more than 600 Peter Wake fans for eight non-stop hours of live music and Macomber signing copies of his books.
