Dilich’s ‘Mermaids of the Deep’ on display at Wild Child Gallery
A Cape Coral artist will have her “Mermaids of the Deep” art exhibit on display at Wild Child Gallery in Matlacha until Nov. 7.
Jessi Dilich said she has painted for a “good 20 years” in Southwest Florida after moving from Chicago.
She said she enjoys painting with oils because it is much easier to blend, along with allowing her to work on three or four paintings at a time while the paint dries.
Her paintings have included an assortment of animals and sceneries before she decided to take a whirl at creating mermaids.
Dilich said the mermaid paintings are a “whimsical thing” that allows her to create fancy tails for the mermaids, which she enjoys the most. She said creating the underwater scenes allows her to let her imagination run wild.
“I’m going to keep painting mermaids until I get tired of painting them,” she said. “An artist does something for a while and then we move on to something else.”
She is currently working on a painting of a teenage mermaid who is using a shell phone.
Gallery owner Peggy McTeague said Dilich has been with the gallery for seven years. She said her display, which features about 16 or so different mermaids and fantasy creatures, is a fun show.
Wild Child Gallery is at 4625 Pine Island Road, N.W., which is in the heart of Matlacha.
The gallery is open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday and closed on Monday. For information call 239-283-6006.
