Hurricane Julia advisory for 5 a.m. Sept. 16

At 5 a.m. Hurricane Julia was moving toward the northwest near 18 MPH. A turn toward the west-northwest with a further increase in forward speed is expected later today.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 105 MPH with higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours.

Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 35 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles.
