Hurricane Igor advisory for 8 a.m. Sept. 17
At 8 a.m. AST, Igor was moving toward the northwest near 9 MPH. This general motion with some increase in forward speed is expected over the next day or so followed by a turn toward the north-northwest. On the forecast track, the center of the hurricane will be approaching Bermuda on Sunday.
Maximum sustained winds are near 120 MPH with higher gusts. Igor is a category three hurricane in the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale. Some fluctuation in strength is possible during the next couple of days.
Igor is a very large tropical cyclone. Hurricane force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 290 miles.
