Tropical Storm Fiona advisory, Aug. 31, 8 a.m.
At 8 a.m. AST, Fiona is moving toward the west-northwest near 24 MPH. A gradual turn toward the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is anticipated during the next 48 hours. On the forecast track, the center of Fiona is expected to pass near or northeast of the northern Leeward Islands early Wednesday.
Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 MPH with higher gusts. Some slow strengthening is possible during the next day or two.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 140 miles to the north of the center.
The government of France has issued a tropical storm warning for St. Maarten and St. Barthelemy.
