Stringtown to perform benefit concert at Bert’s Friday
Summertime can be lean times for many island organizations. Fund raisers and donations tend to dry up but the needs do not, so one local group of entertainers has decided to help in the best way they know how. On Friday, Aug. 20, the musical group, Stringtown will but on a special performance to assist to of the island’s non-profit organizations at Bert’s Bar in Matlacha. According to musician Rick Russell, his band, along with Bernard Johnson, owner of Bert’s, will donate a portion of the proceeds raised during the performance to the Matlacha Mariners and the Matlacha Hookers. The benefit concert will take place at Bert’s from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
According to Russell, he, along with his wife, Danette will be showcasing a different musical project. Accompanying the couple will be a team of some of the most respected musicians in Southwest Florida. The performance will feature a mix of interesting takes on popular material as well as a few original compositions.
The group Stringtown originated in 2009 and includes the Russell’s as well as Steve Gomes and Joe Connors and have been composing and play together since that time. Currently the band is working on its first CD “Music From the Ground Up” which is targeted to be released in the fall of 2010.
