3. Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach

Note: Traffic Safety Tip of the Week: Motorists should have adjusted to the changes created by traffic going to and from school as the first week of a new school year begins. As a safety reminder though, vehicles must stop when a school bus displays a stop arm and flashers. Both directions of traffic must stop on two-lane roadways. This also applies on multi-lane roadways when a physical divider is not in place such as grass or concrete medians. Where such dividers exist, traffic proceeding in the same direction as the stopped bus must stop, while traffic flow in the opposite direction can continue. Don’t hesitate to call our Traffic Unit at 477-1000 if you have a question about rules of the road.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit is providing the information listed below in continuing efforts to increase traffic safety awareness and education, plus to emphasize the importance of obeying traffic laws to reduce traffic crashes, injuries and death on Lee County roads.
Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010, the Traffic Unit will target at least one of the following three locations for enforcement:
1. Palm Beach Boulevard (State Road 80), Fort Myers
2. Orange Grove Boulevard, North Fort Myers
3. Gunnery Road, Lehigh Acres
Locations are selected based upon high incidents of crashes, traffic surveys and citizen complaints. The Sheriff’s Office is committed to promoting traffic safety and enforcing the law. By focusing on violations such as red light running, speeding,

These roving patrols are an enhancement to the daily vigilance of all deputies of the Sheriff’s Office who are committed to removing impaired drivers from our roadways with the ultimate goal of reducing traffic related crashes, injuries and fatalities. Saturation patrols are one of many education and enforcement initiatives scheduled throughout the year to combat drunk driving. Remember, “Over the Limit. Under Arrest.”
