Back-to-School supplies to be collected by Matlacha Hookers
Ranked at an “A” school in Lee County for 11 consecutive years, the success of the students attending Pine Island Elementary can be attributed also to the support of the island community. Living up to a vow to be “hooked on education” members of the Hookers have place donation boxes in various locations throughout Pine Island and Matlacha. The following are the needed items from the basic supply list complied by PIE teachers by grade for the 2010-11 school year:
Kindergarten:
1 box of 16 crayons (small)
1 school box (small) for supplies
1 pair scissors (blunt tip)
4 gluesticks
2 #2 pencils
2 large pick RBCT angle erasers
1 box anti-viral facial tissue
1 package (gallon or quart size) resealable bags
1 inch plastic notebook binder with rings
1 package whiteboard markers (fine tip)
First grade:
1 backpack standard size (no wheels)
i box of 24 pencils
4 red marking pencils with erasers
1 small box for supplies
1 box of 16 crayons (no smelly or florescent)
1 pair scissors (blunt tip)
2 large erasers
1 package cap erasers
1 composition notebook (no spirals)
5-6 gluesticks
2 practice writing tablets (must have a red baseline)
4 pocket folders (2 blue 2 green no brads)
1 box sandwich size resealable bags
1 box facial tissues
1 package of whiteboard markers (fine tip)
Second grade:
10 #2 pencils
10 cap erasers
2 pink brick erasers
5 pocket folders with brads
1 scissors
1 composition book

2 containers of disinfectant wipes
2 yellow highlighters

Third grade:

1 ruler with inches and centimeters

Fourth grade:

2 dozen #2 pencils (no mechanical)

1 Marble composition book
1 green pocket folder with brads

School will begin on Aug. 23 and the collection will continue up until Tuesday, Aug. 17. Containers to collect donated items have been placed at the following locations:
In Matlacha: Perfect Cup, Traders Hitching Post and Sandy Hook
Center: Pine Island Untied Methodist Church, Pine Island Community Church office, TIB Bank, SunTrust Bank, Wachovia, Bank of America, SW Capital Bank, Pine Island Library, Little Lilly’s Island Deli, Century 21, Island Grill and Beacon of HOPE
