Matlacha business destroyed in early morning fire

A landmark in Matlacha was consumed by flames in the early morning hours on Sunday, May 1. The cause of the blaze at Mulletville was undetermined at press time.
Matlacha lost another landmark over the weekend as fire consumed most of the Mulletville Restaurant and Bar on Pine Island Road. The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Department received a call about the burning building at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday morning, May 1. On arriving in Matlacha, firefighters found the business fully engulfed in flames.
“Even though the outside walls are still standing, the interior is basically gutted,” said Chief David Bradley.
According to Bradley, an investigation by the Fire Marshall’s office is currently under way to determine the cause of the fire.
