Legion gets a fresh look

When Joe Vallee was elected commander of the Pine Island American Legion Post 136 two years ago, there was one objective he had to accomplish. He wanted to have the building painted inside and out.
Some months ago, with a group of volunteers both men and women, the inside was painted. A few weeks later, with just about the same group, the outside painted. It was not the standard white paint, but a two-tone earthen color set off with a border between the colors. It was a bold move to break away from the standard white, but from the reaction of the members and guests, it was a great move.
Next time you are on your way through the outskirts of St. James City, stop and admire the “new” Legion, then stop in and pick up an application for membership in the Legion, Auxiliary or Sons of the Legion.
