Detectives continue search for stabbing suspect

Detectives from the Lee County Sheriff’s Department are seeking the assistance of the Pine Island community in its search for a man wanted in connection with the stabbing death of a Bokeelia resident.

The Sheriff’s office is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information that will lead detectives to the whereabouts of Davit T. Chavez, 31, of 5526 Thomas Street, Bokeelia. Chavez has been identified by detectives as a suspect in the stabbing death of Adam D. McClenithan, 21, 5617 Meadowlark Land, Bokeelia.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Chavez is asked to call, the Lee County Sheriff’s office at 477-1000 or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477. Those reporting any information may do so anonymously.

On Wednesday, April 28, at 8:30 p.m. the Lee County Sheriff’s office responded to a call about a possible stabbing in the Villas on Pine Island. According to a police report, the caller stated that a man had come into her yard on Judith Road screaming that he had been stabbed. McClenithan was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital where he later died as a result of the stab wound.

McClenithan leaves behind 4-year-old daughter and a second child due to be born later this year. Friends of the family have established a memorial fund at to help defray funeral costs and aid in the support of McClenithan’s children. Contributions can be made to “Adam’s Fund” at Southwest Capital Bank at the island center.

The stabbing death is the first homicide to occur on Pine Island since Dec. 25, 2008 when Francisco Bernal, also of Bokeelia, was found beaten to death in his home.
