Public hearing to be held April 15 on rezoning for Barrier Island Shore Port

2 min read

Property owner Pat Hunt along with Site Concepts has filed a request for the rezoning of land near the Fisherman’s Co-op in St. James City.

The 3.8 parcel is on Maria Drive and is currently zoned as agricultural. The rezone request is to change the zoning from AG-2 land to Commercial Planned Development. The plans for the property include the construction of a 3,000-square-foot commercial building and a caretaker’s residence. The commercial building would be used as storage for up to 78 cars in a complex called Barrier Island Short Port. In addition, permission is sought to allow for a 23,415-square-foot grass storage area for additional vehicles, boats and trailers.

The Lee County Hearing Examiner will hold at public hearing on the Barrier Island Shore Port request on April 15, beginning at 9 a.m., in the Hearing Examiner’s meeting room at 1500 Monroe Street, Fort Myers. All those wishing to address the Hearing Examiner must appear in person or relay messages through counsel or an authorized agent who can provide testimony, legal argument or evidence at the hearing. When the matter goes before the Board of County Commissioners, the same guidelines will apply and those who do not testify at the Hearing Examiner’s meeting will not be allowed to address the commissioners when they meet to determine the outcome of the request. After the hearing, the Hearing Examiner will file a written recommendation about the case to be presented to the commissioners. At that time, the Board of County Commissioners will review the recommendation made by the Hearing Examiner and render its decision.

Copies of the staff report are available prior to the hearing. These documents can be reviewed at the Development Services Division, 1500 Monroe Street, Fort Myers.
