2 min read

Among the 12 Lee County residents to throw her hat in the ring is Donna Loibl of Matlacha who has submitted the required questionnaire to Governor Christ office for the appointment of the District 1 seat that Commissioner Janes’ held.

Loibl and her husband, Joe, of 38 years, have lived in Matlacha since 1997. She is currently semi-retired and is a licensed Real Estate Broker/salesperson for Gold Key Properties. She is Past President of the Matlacha Civic Association and current member of the Pine Island Chamber of Commerce and the Matlacha Hookers.

Prior to moving to Florida, Donna was elected twice to the Garden City Idaho City Council. She served from 1986 through 1991. She was a member of the Association of Idaho Cities Legislative Committee and the Ada County Planning Association. During her term as councilwoman she was appointed by the Mayor along with another council woman to work with the Committee that then Mayor of Boise-Dirk Kempthorne had established to help solve the border wars between the two cities. Through negotiation and determination they were able to solve the”impact area dispute” that had gone on for many years. Through that the they were able to advance their standing with the County and the City of Boise.

When asked Donna said, “I mentioned the above to show the Governor my policy through the years in both business and politics has been to dig for answers, accept outside consultation as a working tool, negotiate problems and approach and listen to the public on their concerns. I believe I could work amicably with the other Commissioners in the best interest of Lee County.”

Commissioner Bob Janes, representing Matlacha and Pine Island, passed away on March 10.
