Bokeelia Boat Club to host Cardboard Boat Race
Pine Island clubs and organizations constantly strive to find new ways to have fun and the Bokeelia Boat Club is no different. Inviting all to come out for a ‘day at the races’ the club will present a Cardboard Boat Race on Saturday, March 27. Staged at the beach of Calusa Island, the festivities will begin with boat registrations and inspections from 11 a.m. to noon followed by a fried chicken lunch from noon to 1 p.m. the races will start at 1:30 p.m. and all are welcome to participate.
Construct a boat using paper, cardboard, corrugated cardboard, duct or clear packing tape, liquid nail adhesive, contact or rubber cement, water-based paint or water sealer or stain. No other materials will be permissible. Prizes will be awarded for fastest and slowest unsinkable vessels which will be awarded following a second lap around the designated course. Other prizes will be awarded for the most spectacular sinking and the most original boast and crew theme.
