Early morning crash ends with a fatality
On the morning of Tuesday, Dec. 15, at approximately 6:45 a.m., troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol was summoned to a single-car accident on Stringfellow Road in St. James City just south of Turtle Trail. Upon arrival, emergency medical personnel pronounced the driver, Frank Lee Reppa Jr., 23, of Bokeelia, deceased at the scene.
According to authorities with FHP, Reppa was traveling south on Stringfellow Road in his 2001 Dodge Neon sedan at an estimated speed of 82 mph in the 55 mph zone when the accident occurred.
It is believed that Reppa had just traveled through the right hand curve in the road when his vehicle drifted over the centerline and into the northbound lane. He then overcorrected the vehicle back to the right and entered into a clockwise yaw, causing him to lose control of the car. The vehicle then slid, driver side first, off the roadway, onto the west shoulder striking a tree on the driver’s side.
Reppa was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash and there were no passengers in the vehicle at the time of the accident.
