Cape Coral Councilman arrested
Cape Coral city councilman Eric Grill is under arrest on charges of grand theft and fraud. Grill was arrested shortly before 1:00 pm on December 15, 2009.
Grill’s arrest is the culmination of an 11-month investigation by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Economic Crimes Unit. The investigation reveals Grill received in excess of $65,000 from two individuals to construct two separate buildings in Cape Coral. Instead, the investigation shows, Grill used these monies for personal gain to fund his life style and pay bills not associated with the projects. The investigation also shows Grill provided material misstatements to the victims in an effort to conceal a theft and defraud his victims.
Grill, DOB 7-28-65, is charged with one count scheme to defraud in excess of $50,000 (First Degree Felony), one count of grand theft over $20,000 (Second Degree Felony) and one count of grand theft over $10,000 and less then $20,000 (Third Degree Felony).
