Sheriff cleared

Lee County Sheriff Mike Scott has been formally notified of the results of an FDLE (Florida Department of Law Enforcement) investigation into allegations of criminal

misconduct by him. The report says no evidence was found to support criminal misconduct by any member of the agency including the Sheriff. “I have been confident from the outset there was no substance to the claims and I am glad we can call the case closed,” said Sheriff Scott.

The investigation was launched in May of this year when 124 pages documenting complaints by former members of the Sheriff’s Office were handed over to a state inspector. Another 293 pages of documents were provided and four issues were identified for investigation including obstruction of justice, disclosure of an undercover operation, disclosure of the identity of and undercover officer and destruction of public records. In each allegation the inspector wrote, “…it can be determined that there was no identifiable criminal predicate that would warrant investigation by the Office of Executive Investigations.” Thirteen members of the Sheriff’s Office were interviewed as witnesses during the six month investigation.

A copy of the report is available from Public Information staff with FDLE in Tallahassee.
