Pine Island Cares event to be hosted in two locations

2 min read

Everyone is invited to find out just how much the community of Pine Island cares about those in need. On Saturday, Oct. 17, two very important events will take place in St. James City during the second Pine Island Cares day. This is an opportunity for all islanders to learn who the caring community organizations are on the island and what they can do to help you or your neighbors during a time of need. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., several organizations will be on hand at the St. James City Civic Center, located at the corner of Fourth Avenue and Lemon Street in St. James City for a free “Health Expo.” Participating in this event will be Associates in Dermatology, which will provide free skin cancer screenings, 21st Century Oncology, which will provide information and caretenders including home health care, vision and hearing exam and balance screenings, as well as CVS Home Health, which provides medical equipment, and Cares of Lee County to discuss mental health, and other local organizations who provide free or discounted services to island residents. In addition, the members of Pine Island Cares will offer free resource bags, goodies and food. Those interested in the free skin cancer screenings are encouraged to wear a bathing suit under clothing for a proper exam.

Also participating in the event will be Family Health Center, which will host an open house and provide adult wellness screenings also from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the clinic located at 8359 Stringfellow Road. Transportation will be provided from one location to the other for those who need it.
