Tropical Storm Fred advisory for 11 a.m. Sept. 8
At 11 a.m. AST, the center of Tropical Storm Fred was located about 345 miles southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands.
Fred is moving toward the west near 14 mph. A gradual turn toward the west-northwest and the northwest with a decrease in forward speed is expected over the next couple of days.
Satellite images indicate that the maximum sustained winds have increased to near 65 mph with higher gusts. Some additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days and Fed is expected to become a hurricane by Wednesday.
Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 105 miles from the center.
