Lee County Schools to debut ‘Game of the Week’ TV production

This year, Lee County Public Schools is doing something it has never done before. Its cable TV station, TV99, will be covering a varsity football game every week during the regular season. The staff and Lee County high school interns from TV 99 will visit a different school each week, complete with play-by-play and “color” analyst.

While it may not be Monday Night Football, it will allow the District to bring attention to local athletes more than just a quick highlight here and there. The Game of the Week was developed to showcase and promote the spirit of sportsmanship and fair play in athletic contests and to provide Lee County students with real life communications and television broadcast experience. It also provides “hands on” experiences for TV99 student interns.

The staff will cover the game in its entirety on Friday night, then have the package ready to air on TV99 the following Monday at 7 p.m. on Comcast channel 99. The schedule for the Game of the Week is as follows:

Sept. 11 – Dunbar High vs. Lehigh Senior High at Lehigh Senior High

Sept. 18 – Estero High vs. Lemon Bay High (out of county) at Lemon Bay High

Sept. 25 – North Fort Myers High vs. Fort Myers High at Fort Myers High

Oct. 2 – Mariner High vs. Island Coast High at Island Coast High

Oct. 9 – South Fort Myers High vs. North Fort Myers at North Fort Myers High

Oct. 16 – Riverdale High vs. Dunbar High at Dunbar High

Oct. 23 – North Fort Myers High vs. Mariner High at Mariner High

Oct. 30 – East Lee County High vs. Cypress Lake High at Cypress Lake High

Nov. 6 – Ida S. Baker High vs. Cape Coral High at Cape Coral High

Nov. 11 – East Lee County High vs. Dunbar High at Dunbar High
