2 min read

A saturation patrol was conducted in Lee County on Friday, Sept. 4, 2009, in the area of Ben Hill Griffin Parkway, Alico Road, Corkscrew Road and Three Oaks Parkway. The following are the results of the activity that began at 9 p.m. Friday night and ended at 3 a.m. Saturday morning:

DUI Arrests: 06

Driving While License Suspended: 01

No Valid Driver’s License: 01

Possession of a controlled substance: 05

Misdemeanor Warrant: 01

Traffic citations issued: 61

Traffic Warning issued: 38

The primary emphasis for DUI enforcement efforts are:

1. Remove impaired drivers from the roadway.

2. Reduce the likelihood impaired drivers will operate their vehicles on our roadways.

3. Heighten public awareness.

4. Educate the public on the dangers of drunk driving.

This weekend’s saturation patrol involved members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Gulf Coast University Police Department.

Our thanks to the media who provided coverage of this education, awareness and enforcement effort held in conjunction with the nationally advertised “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest” campaign. Daily enforcement, sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols by deputies with the Sheriff’s Office are a part of on-going efforts to curb traffic fatalities, injuries and crashes in Lee County. Various community partnerships, including planned operations such as noted above, are established with the goal of educating and informing the public on traffic safety issues.
