Cameras installed to nab red light runners

1 min read

Lee County has installed a series of cameras at the intersection of Colonial Boulevard and Summerlin Road.

The purpose of the cameras is to document individual vehicles that run the red traffic signal, said Paul Wingard with the Lee county Department of Transportation.

The cameras capture several pictures of the vehicle and the vehicle license plate on any vehicle that enters the intersection after the traffic signal has changed to red. The system is automated and will work through the LeeWay Service Center.

The county will have the ability to issue warning letters and/or uniform traffic citations to anyone that violates the traffic signal control, Wingard said.
