Third Annual Kids Art Show set to begin at Rooney’s
Rooney’s Market in the heart of Matlacha will once again present the Annual Kids Art Show and contest at the end of this month.
“It has been our goal to showcase the art work of our talented area youngsters and are pleased to host this event again this year,” said organizer Ann Sansone. “All of the art work submitted will be prominently displayed at the market and we are working on having the a special reception for all of this year’s participants at the Pine Island Library sometime in July.”
The Art Show and contest is open to children ages 2 1/2 to 13 and Rooney’s will be displaying art work from June 29 through July 13. All submissions must be dropped off at Rooney’s no later than June 25 and can be created using any kind of medium with mounting as an option.
Last year more than two dozen pieces were entered into the show and were created with everything from crayons to watercolors. Each of the children participating in the show and contest will receive a commemorative ribbon and will be treated to a free ice cream courtesy of Rooney’s Market, which is located at 4548 C Pine Island Road in Matlacha between the Perfect Cup Restaurant and Pine Island Dance.
“We encourage residents and visitors to come into the store and enjoy the work produced by the kids. It is not only fun for the kids, but it is a way to show our support to our community’s children and we are happy to share that with everyone,” said Sansone. “We are encouraging the kids to use their imaginations and to use a lot of colors in their designs. We see this as an opportunity to turn off the TV or video games and just have fun creating.”
According to Sansone, she developed the Kids Art Show based on her past experiences prior to moving with her family to Pine Island.
“When I lived up north, a local paint store sponsored an art contest for kids and my kids thought it was such a neat idea, so, I thought why not do something like it for the kids here,” Sansone said. “I know there are a lot of kids out there with very little for them to do. I decided I would like to offer them an alternative that would give them something creative to do with their time off from school each summer.”
