Texas-based Jersey troubadour to perform at Tarpon Lodge
Texas-based Singer/Songwriter Hank Woji is scheduled to perform at the Tarpon Lodge in Pineland on Thursday, June 11, from 6-9:30 p.m. For outstanding writing and performance work on his latest CD release, “American Dreams”, Jersey-born Woji has recently been nominated for the 2009 “Singer/Songwriter of the Year” award by the Academy of Texas Music. The “TMAs” have been referred to as the “Grammys” for Independent Texas Artists.
For over 15 years, first as a bassist sideman, then later as a bandleader and percussionist, Hank was a driving force in some of the Jersey Shore’s most dynamic and innovative bands, sharing the stage, or performing, with such diverse artists as: The Drifters, The Radiators, Jon Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen, Hot Tuna, Toots & the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff and Johnny Winter.
Since moving to Houston, and turning to songwriting, in 2001, his compositions have garnered him honors in numerous national and international songwriting competitions including: The South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition & The Woody Guthrie Folk Festival Songwriting Contest.
Hank has recorded two self produced CDs. “Medallion”, released in 2005, combined elements of folk, blues, R&B and rock & roll with Brasilian, Cuban, African and Indian rhythms, while his 2008 offering, “American Dreams”, is painted in broad strokes on a canvas of pure Americana, incorporating bluegrass, gospel, country, folk and rock & roll, in addressing many of the hot-button social and political issues of our time.
