Mulletville introduces Bike Night to Matlacha
The rumbles of Harleys and other bikes were heard in Matlacha last Thursday when the island’s first Bike Night took place. Sponsored by Al and Barb’s Mulletville on Pine Island Road in Matlacha, this first-time event attracted motorcycle enthusiasts from throughout the area.
“We have often gone to Bike Night events and decided that it would be a good idea to hold one here in Matlacha,” said Barb Jones, co-owner of Mulletville. “The other events we have attended were just a bunch of bikers getting together and we could never understand why the businesses that hold them don’t do anything special, so we added a few things of our own.”
On the first Bike Night, attendees enjoyed some light snacks, live music and happy hour drink specials from 7 to 10 p.m.
“We are planning to hold the Thursday Bike Nights through the rest of May and if it draws enough interest, we will continue to host them throughout the summer,” said Jones. “We are looking forward to seeing even more new faces. We have a lot of bikers here on the island and in the Cape and we will rely primarily on word of mouth to get people out here for the evening.”
At this time, the group Whipping Post has signed on to play at each Bike Night held at Mulletville.
“I think this is a great idea and it’s going to be wonderful,” said attendee Donna Page. “I think when more people hear about it, more people will attend and have a good time.”
Bike enthusiast Ron Johnson also enjoyed his first Bike Night in Matlacha.
“I think it’s great that Mulletville is encouraging us to get out and have a good time,” said Johnson. “It’s a great idea and as people know about it, it will only get better.”
Bike Nights in Cape Coral have become a traditional seasonal event and the Joneses hope that patrons of the Mulletville Bike Night will come to think of the Matlacha Bike Nights in much the same way as the Cape’s.
“We have always enjoyed going to Bike Night, meeting new people and sharing stories, but always thought they lacked something,” said Barb Jones. “We hope that by adding drink specials and live music we will be able to offer Bike Night throughout the summer months.”
