2009 LCEC 13th Annual United Way Fishing Tournament is Saturday

This Saturday, anglers from across Lee County will vie for prizes and help a worthy cause. On April 25, the 2009 LCEC 13th Annual United Way Fishing Tournament will take place at D&D Bait and Tackle located on Pine Island Road in Matlacha.

The cost to participate is $75 per person registering after April 22 and teams must consist of a minimum of two fishermen per boat. The first casts will be made at 7 a.m.

Using the honor system, boats can leave from and fish anywhere, however, all fish must be presented for weigh-in no later than 3:30 p.m. at the weigh station located at D&D Bait and Tackle.

Prior to the event, there will be a captains meeting Friday, April 24, beginning at 6 p.m. at D&D. Captains must attend to get assigned weigh-in numbers.

At the weigh-in, all fish will be checked to ensure they meet the minium state size requirement. Each team can weigh in one snook, one redfish, one trout and one snapper per boat. Those weighing in the largest of these catches will be awarded cash prizes.

During the afternoon, visitors to the event will be offered chances on several raffles, and food and beverages will be available for purchase. Meals will be available for purchase at $5 per plate.
