SJCCA announces entries for Art Expo 2009
Members of the St. James City Civic Association will host their first Art Expo from Saturday, Feb. 28, and Sunday, March 1, at the Civic Center in St. James City. This two-day event will highlight the artists of Greater Pine Island and will kick off with a “Meet the Artists” evening at the St. James City Civic Center located at the corner of Fourth and Lemon Streets in St. James City.
On Feb. 28, the public is invited to see the work and meet the artists of this juried competition from 7 to 9 p.m. Members of the association will provide attendees with a variety of wines and hors d’oeuvres and traditional bluegrass music will be performed by “Just the Two of Us,” Peg and Bob Cullen. Then on March 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., all are welcome back to the center to browse with works of art which then will be up for sale to the general public. A portion of the proceeds derived from the sale of art work will help to defray the cost of maintenance of the civic center building and grounds. Admission to both days is free of charge.
SJCCA president Mary Ann Harms is excited about the participation level for this first time event.
“Peg Cullen is one of the 35 fine artists juried into the show,” said Harms. “Peg and her husband, Bob, also will play traditional bluegrass at the opening reception.”
In addition to paintings, the Art Expo will feature jewelry, metal art, sculpture, glass, watercolor and photography. According to Harms, all of the work is original from a concept developed entirely by the artist and executed from the artist’s own hand.
“The artists will be available to mingle with the public throughout the show,” said Harms. “We are pleased that so many Pine Islanders representing a variety of arts are supporting the Expo.”
