FISH Food Pantry receives special holiday gift
Last week, volunteers with the FISH Food Pantry received an early Christmas gift thanks to a caring group from Cape Coral. The Cape Royal Community Foundation, comprised of the residents of Cape Royal, presented the pantry with a check for $1,000.
According to the foundation president Terry LaBarge, his group hosts fund-raisers to benefit local charities.
“We had done our research regarding local charities and the FISH Food Pantry came out very favorably. The foundation came into being about five years ago and has raised over a $60,000 for various charities,” said LaBarge. “In addition to our contribution to the island food pantry, we have also contributed to the Sunrise Community, Guardian Angels, the Harry Chapin Food Pantry, the Cape Caring Center and ACT.”
The Cape Royal Community Foundation is a non-profit organization and has no paid employees or board members. The CRCF has two main fund-raisers each year, a golf tournament for scholarships and an entertainment night for charitable needs.
In addition to the $60,000 raised for charities, the CRCF also has provided $90,000 in scholarships to local high school seniors.
