Son of islander named senior vice president, CFO of Dolphins

Deborah Cole, manager of Bert’s Pine Bay Gallery, proudly announced that the Miami Dolphins recently hired her son, Chris Clements, as senior vice president, chief financial officer. The new CFO will be responsible for the club and stadium’s financial, insurance, banking, business systems, and purchasing operations of the organization.
“My son was raised in Michigan and from the time he was a boy, he always wanted to work for a professional sports organization,” Cole said. “Right out of college he got a job with International Management Group, an international sports organization. They’re in the sports, fashion and media business. They also represent athletes, coaches, industry executives and sports organizations across the globe. And now I think Chris has found his dream job.”
Clements will report directly to Dolphins’ President and Chief Executive Officer Tom Garfinkel and will be responsible for the club and stadium’s financial, insurance, banking, business systems, and purchasing operations of the organization.
“We’re excited that Chris has decided to join us here at the Dolphins,” said Garfinkel in a press release announcing Clements joining the team. “Chris is a collaborative and strategic leader and his extensive experience in operational finance and growing sports businesses will prove to be a tremendous addition to the dynamic leadership team that’s in place.”
Clements joins the Dolphins after working with IMG since 1996 in a variety of different leadership positions. He most recently served as senior vice president, business unit chief financial officer, sports and entertainment in Cleveland, Ohio. In this role, Clements was the lead business partner with four division presidents in consulting, clients, academies and tennis. He led the finance staff and was responsible for the development of the organization’s three-year strategic planning, annual budget and monthly reporting process.
Clements was promoted to senior vice president in 2013 at IMG after serving as vice president, business unit chief financial officer. He also held positions at IMG as vice president, senior finance director, golf business unit and vice president, finance director, clients business unit in Cleveland and was the controller for IMG Canada.
He holds a degree in accounting from Northwood University in Midland, Mich. He and his wife, Sherry, have three children, Riley, Ella and Blaine.
