Winn-Dixie to replace Cape Sweetbay, others
The Beef People will once again open their doors in Cape Coral, starting fresh in a new location.
Bi-Lo Holdings, the parent company of BI-LO and Winn-Dixie grocery stores – one of which in on Pine Island -announced this week that 17 Sweetbay Supermarket stores throughout Fort Myers, Naples and Tampa will be rebranded. On Saturday, the Sweetbay on Cape Coral Parkway will close; it will reopen as a Winn-Dixie on Friday.
The other 16 stores will be converted to Winn-Dixies during the same time period.
“The customers can expect, obviously, to see the Winn-Dixie brand name as the new signage,” Mayra Hernandez, a spokeswoman for Winn-Dixie, said Thursday. “Product selections and offerings will be Winn-Dixie branded items, as well as your everyday merchandising, like fresh vegetables and meats.”
During the weeklong closure, the store will be rearranged, shelves put up and items restocked.
“It’s, basically, just a lot of the resetting, the signage,” she said. “A lot of that going on.”
The new store’s employees will also undergo training at that time.
“All Sweetbay employees have been offered employment with Winn-Dixie,” Hernandez said, adding that staff will receive their new uniforms and will review Winn-Dixie’s processes and systems.
She encouraged the public to stop by and check out the new store when it opens.
“We’re very excited to be serving the Cape Coral community, and we look forward to welcoming our customers,” Hernandez said. “We’re about offering the best quality products at a great price.”
Winn-Dixie promotes savings through several of its programs, including the Customer Reward Card, fuelperks!, Dependable Deals, Make-A-Meal, Baby Club and Upromise, among others.
“We have a variety of programs that we have available to customers,” she said.
Tied into the Customer Reward Card, the fuelperks! program works by providing customers who purchase $50 in items with 5 cents off of a gallon of gas at any participating Shell gas station.
“The advantage of the reward card is also the ability to take advantage of the many savings we have in the store,” Hernandez said.
For example, customers can sign up online for E-Coupons and save at the register. With Dependable Deals, an item remains the same price for 10 weeks, while the Make-A-Meal program asks that customers purchase a set of items to receive some other items for free.
“Upon reopening as a Winn-Dixie, we believe customers will be pleasantly surprised to see that we have been working hard to provide the fresh quality products they want at prices they can afford,” Joey Medina, regional vice president of Winn-Dixie, reported via a prepared statement released Monday.
The new store will be located at 1016 E. Cape Coral Parkway.
