O.W.L.S. are back

Who are the O.W.L.S.? They are the Older, Wiser, Laughing Souls. It is a program sponsored by the Beacon of H.O.P.E./United Way. It is funded by donations from the Pine Island United Methodist Church and Matlacha Hookers.

O.W.L.S. is an educational program directed towards Pine Island seniors. There is laughter, light exercise, a delicious breakfast (recipes available on request), and each month a different speaker.

All of the meetings take place at the community center at the Methodist Church and start at 8 a.m.

On Jan. 17, Barry August who will be speaking to us about VA benefits. There are programs you may not be aware exist.

Confused about hearing aids? On Feb. 7, Charles Cameron from Hearing Health of Southwest Florida, will help us demystify types, prices and the insurance tangle of hearing aids.

March 14, brings a program called Five Wishes. This is a program about end of life decisions. Such as, what kind of music or do you want any music playing in your room? Who do you want as visitors? It saves a lot of family stress and really prevents arguments between family members because it helps answer the question of “What does Mom or Dad want?”

So, come for fellowship, food, fun and information. And, guess what? It’s free!
