The Matlacha Chamber of Commerce held its first meeting of the season Tuesday night. The topics covered included old business (minutes, treasurer’s report), and the new website.

“The new website is up and running,” board member Kathy Jones said. “We have most of our members on the site with links to their home pages. As new members are added they will be added to our site along with a link to their home page.”

The new website includes an “About Matlacha” page where the reader will find a brief history of Matlacha Island.

Upcoming events include “Merry Matlacha.”

“Merry Matlacha is in the planning stages,” Leoma Lovegrove, president, said. “Every weekend after Thanksgiving the merchants and various organizations of Matlacha will have special events, music, caroling, dining, fishing, shopping, art openings, painting for kids of all ages, historic walking tours and more. Each Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be very merry during Matlacha’s second annual Merry Matlacha.”

The Merry Matlacha weekends also collect toys for the Toys For Tots Program.

The meeting closed with a brief discussion about establishing a lost and found for the island.

“I can’t tell you how many times a season someone has left sunglasses, a hat, or something of value,” Lovegrove said. “If we had a central location for these things people would have an opportunity to retrieve them.”

Membership is free for any Matlacha business. There is a $25 fee for individual memberships.
