A Key West resident will be performing for the second year in row at Bert’s Bar .

Yankee Jack, who has been playing professionally since 1964, will perform at Bert’s Bar Sunday, July 28.

He said he has been playing in Key West for 25 years with some musical acts as Charlie Daniels, Willie Nelson, Loretta Lynn, Timmy Wynette, Oak Ridge Boys, BJ Thomas and Tiny Tim.

“My roots are in country music,” Yankee Jack said. “I play a lot of original music, that’s what basically keeps me afloat in the eyes of the audience, so I can identify with their situations.”

He said he usually comes up with a song about the audiences’ plights in life.

This year Yankee Jack is starting his tour in the Fort Myers area.

The six-week tour, which involves 16 gigs in six states, will end around Labor Day when Yankee Jack arrives back in Key West.

Last year, he said was the first year he played at Bert’s Bar.

“I did two shows there,” Yankee Jack said. “It was like chemistry. I love the people, I love the environment. I seem to fit in. It was like playing in old Key West 25 years ago.”

Bert’s Bar is located at 4271 Pine Island Road in Matlacha. For information, call 239-282-3232.
