Stonegate Bank, Winn-Dixie, Matlacha Post Office drop-off spots for Food Pantry donations
In order to help restock the shelves at the Food Pantry, Stonegate Bank, Winn-Dixie and the Matlacha Post Office have become the official drop-off locations.
Stonegate Bank Pine Island Office Vice President Elsie Stearns said she wanted to have fun with a food drive for the month of October, so anyone who drives up to the bank and honks their horn will receive service at their vehicle, so they do not have to get out of their car to drop off items.
“If you want to pull up and toot your horn, we will have someone from the bank come out and pick up the food,” she said, adding that if no one appears honk the horn a second time.
The bank, Stearns said, has always been a drop-off for the Food Pantry.
“It’s part of being a part of the community,” she said. “It is part of joining of the hands with other organizations and saying, ‘yeah we are here, and let us help you.'”
Stearns said she would love to receive so many groceries that they have to call the Food Pantry because they ran out of room.
“Hopefully we will have a ton of groceries,” she said.
Since the Food Bank dropped off a shopping cart at the bank for the donations, Stearns said anyone who fills up the cart will receive a little gift from the bank.
The Food Bank is in need of everything, especially soup and boxed meals like Hamburger Helper and Tuna Helper. The pantry is also in need of dish soap, bar soap, toothpaste, laundry detergent, shampoo and toilet paper.
President David Grueser said a new record of families was helped at the Food Bank on Oct. 4 – 35 families, which amounted in 111 clients.
The Food Bank also accepts cash donations, which can be made payable to Pine Island Food Pantry, 12175 Stringfellow Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922.
