Two new therapists join staff at Twin Dreams LLC
Island psychotherapy office, Twin Dreams LLC, is growing. With the addition of two new therapists, Jodi Carlton, Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Dixie Dakos, Intern, in Mental Health Counseling, Twin Dreams will be positioned to serve more individuals and families.
Founder Dr. Margery “Mercy” Runyan said, “instead of closing down in a weak economy, we are expanding.” One of Runyan’s emphases when she formed her practice on Pine Island over two years ago was to make psychotherapy available to as many people as possible in an accessible location. The expansion will help attain this goal. In addition, the new therapists will accept private pay and insurance, including Medicare and Medicaid HMOs.
The powerful energy in the office now with three clinicians is expressed by friendly collaboration, kindness, and contagious joy. Runyan refers to the practice as postmodern psychotherapy, characterized by openness, honesty, and warmth. The therapists work side by side with the clients, joining them in their worlds and living their experiences.
When Runyan selected her new associates, she said the most important question was “do you really care about helping people find peace and joy?” The answer from both new clinicians was a resounding, “yes.”
“We are dedicated and passionate about helping clients to live with optimal experience,” said Carlton and Dakos.
Several workshops and support groups will be offered throughout the year and will address different areas of interest and concern. Dakos will offer a two-session workshop, “Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren” sometime in August.
Carlton has 15 years of experience working with children and adolescents with severe emotional and behavioral issues in outpatient clinics, homes, and schools. She places the utmost importance on helping parents use a child’s strengths to foster future success. Carlton has also worked with adults suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, borderline personality, learning difficulties, substance abuse, marriage and family issues and trauma.
Dakos is currently the school counselor at Pine Island Elementary School and has served as a school counselor with the School District of Lee County for 11 years. She was honored as the Elementary School Counselor of the Year in 2010. Dakos has worked in the field for 22 years, first as a victim’s advocate and then with juvenile justice diversion programs and community mental health where she gained valuable experience with psychiatric disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dakos appreciates the value of family therapy and group psychotherapy and has experience with both children and adults
