We don’t need strip malls

To the Editor:

Having read the doctor’s letter and Mr. Wright’s letter in the Eagle last week, I can truly say I feel real anger. I live in Bokeelia but am not a member of the Bokeelia Civic Association. They don’t represent me nor the majority of the locals that live on this end of the Island. If I wanted to be around more commercial ventures, I would move off this island. The reason I am here and I would suspect the majority of the residents feel the same way, is the feel of the open land, the lack of stores and strip malls lining the roadway and the laid back feeling you get when you see the open uncrowded road before you. How terrible would it be to have strip malls or even individual commercial stores lining our roadway from the top of Bokeelia to St James City. What other commercial ventures do we really need here on our Island? Yes, I am selfish. I want what I moved on this Island for — a laid back relaxed area where I don’t have all the worries they have in Fort Myers, Cape Coral and the better part of Florida. Please gentlemen, if you don’t like Pine Island as it is, leave and leave us alone. Give ’em hell Phil.
