Recently joining the staff of Edward Jones Investments is island resident Garth Moreau. A newcomer to Pine Island, Moreau and his family are quickly acclimating themselves to the island life-style.
“My family and I had visited the area numerous times and when the opportunity arose for me to come to the Edward Jones Pine Island office, I jumped at it. Currently we are living in St. James City and are looking for a permeant home on the island,” said Moreau. “I have never been to a friendlier place and we are pleased to be a part of this wonderful community.”
Moreau, his wife, Katie, and their 2 1/2-year-old twins, Anna and Lily, moved to Pine Island from Niceville, Fla., where he lived and worked for the last seven years. Moreau grew up in Louisiana and after graduating high school spent four years in the U.S. Air Force. At the end of his military duty, Moreau enrolled in East Texas Baptist University and then attended Berea College in Kentucky where he majored in phycology.
During his military stint, Moreau trained as a computer tech and worked for several years for UPS. He then decided to pursue a career as a financial advisor.
“I looked at a lot of companies and I felt that Edward Jones had the best training and support and a reputation far superior than many other companies,” said Moreau.
According to Moreau, Edward Jones provides its financial advisors with an extensive training program for testing to gain the title of financial advisor.
“The training program involves 13 weeks of study to prepare for the test,” said Moreau. “And even after the 13 weeks, several more days are dedicated to study when arriving at the location where the test is given.”
Since arriving on Pine Island, Moreau has spent time going door to door introducing himself to his new community.
“I enjoy meeting people face-to-face, so look for me in your neighborhood soon,” he said.
Moreau also said that many of the people he has spoken with are concerned about the current economy but he remains optimistic about the future.
“Many people are concerned about losing their life savings because of the current economic climate. Some have lost as much as 70 percent of their retirement, but it is my belief that we will soon recover from this downturn and with the incoming new government leaders, I believe the new blood will be beneficial and hopefully things will turn around real soon,” he said.
Edward Jones is one of the fastest growing investment firms with locations throughout the United States as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.
The Pine Island branch is located in the Century 21 building just south of the center.
