Elks to host Shred Day event Saturday

Pine Island residents are invited to get their shred on – and get rid of sensitive documents such as bank, legal and medical records – in a safe and secure manner while supporting the Pine Island Food Pantry.
From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, residents who bring five canned goods for each banker-sized box or 13-pound plastic bag of documents to the Elks Lodge, 5630 Pine Island Road, Bokeelia, FL 33922, will be able to have their documents shredded securely and safely by Shred It Direct. Monetary donations will also be accepted in lieu of canned goods. They will use a drive-thru format in the Elks parking lot with a recommended limit of 5 boxes or bags per household in order to keep the line moving.
The Lee County Sheriff’s office considers “shred worthy” documents to include bank statements, canceled or voided checks, invoices, expired driver’s licenses, identification cards, all picture IDs, expired credit cards, credit card bills, carbon copies, summaries and receipts, documents containing maiden names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, pin numbers, passwords and investment information, medical and dental records, pre-approved credit card applications, credit scores, leases, contracts, utility bills and letters containing signatures, pay stubs, resumes, travel itineraries and tax records.
A list of foods the pantry needs everyday can be found on our website pineislandfoodpantry.org.
The Pine Island Food Pantry, which is a 501c3 nonprofit, serves the Pine Island and greater Matlacha areas and is operated by an all-volunteer staff. Its goal is to ensure “no one goes hungry” on the island.
