Taylor-Manges to speak at today’s MCA meeting
The Matlacha Civic Association will hold its next meeting today, March 16, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Matlacha Park Arts Building at 4577 Pine Island Road. This month’s guest speaker is Arielle Taylor-Manges.
An environmental specialist with the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserves for over 10 years, Taylor-Manges’ work with the aquatic preserves includes resource monitoring such as seagrass and bird rookery monitoring, data management, coordinating the volunteer water quality program, working with partners on restoration and research projects within the aquatic preserves, and participating in outreach events.
She will present an overview of the Florida Aquatic Preserves program, focusing on the health of the local aquatic preserves and the ways staff manage these submerged lands. The Matlacha Pass and Pine Island Sound are two of the aquatic preserves monitored by the Charlotte Harbor Aquatic Preserve organization.
The meeting will include a report on the Third Annual Water Colors Gala to be held Sunday, March 27. The gala is the major fundraiser for MCA in its efforts to protect the environment.
This year’s gala will take place at Wild Child Gallery in Matlacha, with food provided by Matlacha’s own That BBQ Place and music by guitarist and singer Danny Cook. Wine and beer will be provided courtesy of local Matlacha restaurants.
Tickets are on sale at CW Fudge (4548 Pine Island Road, Matlacha), Wild Child Gallery (4625 Pine Island Road, Matlacha) and online at www.matlachacivic.org.
