Bert’s Bar and Grill a finalist in First Horizon Bank contest
Top prize is $30,000; Johnson says winnings would go to Matlacha Hookers
First Horizon Bank has a promotion to award up to $30,000 to its customers for the best entry for its Back to Business contest.
Each of bank’s regions will choose 50 winning customers and the local region includes Fort Myers and Naples. Bernard Johnson, owner of Bert’s Bar and Grill has entered a drone ad and pledged any winnings to the Matlacha Hookers’ “Hooked on Education” Program.
According to First Horizon Bank Vice President, Robin Parmerlee, The First Horizon Back to Business contest is designed to recognize and celebrate resilient businesses in the company’s regional footprint through $1 million total cash prizes. Entries closed on Feb. 15, and from the entries, 50 finalists were selected to advance to public voting. Businesses in select communities in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas were invited to participate. Businesses entered by describing, in 100 words or less, how their business would use the money, if they won. Cash prize winners will be announced on or around April 12, 2022.
“When we first launched the Back to Business contest in January, supporting local businesses like Bert’s Bar and Grill is exactly what we had in mind. Bert’s Bar and Grill is a finalist in our contest in part because he has committed to donating funds to The Matlacha Hookers and its ‘Hooked on Education’ scholarship program. This is what we love to see – organizations giving back and supporting each other,” Parmerlee said.
“The thought is that hopefully we’ll get enough votes — the first prize is $30,000, the second prize is $10,000 and the third prize is $5,000. It would be fabulous if we won $30,000 for the Hookers. The Hookers started at Bert’s — that’s where they began, so there is a little bit of history there. That’s why I’m donating to them, if we win,” Johnson said.
Matlacha Hookers founder and first madam Nancy Goodwin said she could not be happier or more proud of the endeavor. She maintains that the Hookers members are the finest women who have ever walked the planet.
“Reaching out to all my island friends and family — please vote for the drone ad for Bert’s Bar. Please know that a vote for this ad will benefit, not only Bert’s, but also the Matlacha Hookers in a most vital way. Please get on your computers and vote,” Goodwin said.
