PIE’s Acosta to retire

Pine Island Elementary School’s beloved Building Supervisor Carmelo Acosta will be retiring after 36 years in the School District of Lee County. Carmelo spent 26 of those 35 years right here at Pine Island Elementary School. Carmelo began his career at Cypress Lake High School, and then transferred to Cypress Lake Middle School, before going to Mariner High School. In 1995, he was hired at PIE as the head custodian and was promoted to the Building Supervisor at PIE in 1999.

In his 26 years at PIE, Carmelo has spent countless hours dedicating himself to the staff, students and the community of Pine Island. He has been a valuable staff member that always strives for excellence in all his endeavors at PIE. He is a cherished member of the PIE staff and will always be remembered for his kind heart, gentle soul and wonderful demeanor. He will be greatly missed. Carmelo’s last day at school will be Feb. 28, 2022. Please join the PIE students and staff in wishing him the best of luck in his retirement!
