Just before 5 a.m. Thursday, units from the Matlacha/Pine Island Fire Control District were dispatched to a structure fire on Courtney Road in St. James city.

Upon arrival, firefighters found the structure was fully involved.

M/PIFCD officials reported that the structure was a total loss but there weren’t any injuries or other structures lost. The cause is still under investigation.

Fire Chief Ben Mickuleit reported that the island fire crews used about 20,000 gallons of water and had four engines, one tender and three command staff on the scene.
