Beacon of Hope’s February schedule set

The Beacon of Hope on Pine Island has scheduled the following activities and programs for the month of February. The Beacon is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 .pm. Computers, fax and printer are available for use.

– The Food Bank -Every Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The Emergency Pantry is available when we are open

– Wellness Committee – Monday, Feb. 14, at 10 a.m.

– The Veteran’s Support group is meeting again. It will be the first Friday of every month from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The next meeting will be on Feb. 4 then on March 4. Call 239-283-5123 to make an appointment.

– Strange Arrangement – Mondays, 6-7:30 p.m. Lessons given. A musical experience.

– Funds/Communications meeting – Monday, Feb. 21, at 10 a.m.

– Grants Committee meeting – to be announced.

– Pine Island Cares – Wednesday, April 13, at 10 a.m.

– Homelessness Committee – Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m.

– Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group – first and third Thursdays at 2:30 p.m.

– There will be another class on Buddhist Meditation. Stay tuned for details.

– Yoga on Mondays from 4-5 p.m.

– Pine Island Boy Scout Troop will be meeting Wednesday evenings at 6 starting Feb. 12

– Veteran’s Outreach – First Friday of every month. Next one will be Feb. 4, then March 4, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Call 239-283-5123 for an appointment.

– Free tax preparation will be every Friday starting Feb. 4 through April 8. Call 239-283-5123 for an appointment. You will have to pick up some papers to fill out before your appointment.

– GED classes are on Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

– ESOL classes are held every Monday from 7:30-9 p.m. at the Beacon, Monday from 7:30-9:30 a.m. at the Park, and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Shrimp Farm.

– Citizenship classes are held on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Shrimp Farm and Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Firehouse.

– The Attic (Thrift Store) will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations may be brought during these times. Every Tuesday is 50% off clothing, shoes and similar items. 50% off “almost everything” Tuesday will be Feb. 15.

– Wellness articles are now available on our Website, beaconofhopepineisland.com. These articles are changed bi-weekly. Past articles are archived and can be read at any time. The present series is on Mental Health. The first article is on Mental Health in general. The previous Mental Health Article covered PTSD and currently covers Isolation. Following will be other specific problems such as anxiety and depression – how to recognize the symptoms, what can be done about it, and how you can help.
