Friends of Pine Island Library to vote on proposed by-laws
According to the late Carl Sagan, “The health of our civilization, the depth of our awareness about the underpinnings of our culture and our concern for the future can all be tested by how well we support our libraries.”
January presents an opportunity for Pine Islanders to actively support the Pine IslandLibrary. The Friends of Pine Island Library is a non-profit, charitable group formed to do just that. The mission of the organization is to benefit and enrich the greater Pine Island community through its projects. Friends encourage literacy, strive to give children an educational head start and foster life-long learning and recreation for adults.
Friends has a very important meeting Thursday, Jan. 20, and the group wants participation from the community. Friends will be voting on new bylaws, which were unanimously supported by the Board and reviewed in detail at the November membership meeting. To vote on the proposed bylaws you have to be a current member. Annual dues are $5 (cash or check only, please).
There are three ways to “attend” the meeting and vote. You can show up in person at the library at 3 p.m. on Jan. 20. The room is limited to 20 people; first-come, first-served. Dues will be collected if appropriate. Voting will be done at 3:30.
You can also attend and vote via Zoom. Contact president@friendsofpilibrary.org if you choose this method. A link will be sent the morning of the meeting. Dues must be paid prior to Zooming as it will be a virtual attendance. Send to FOPIL, PO Box 290, St. James City, FL, 33956, by Jan. 20. Voting will be at 3:30 pm.
Another option is to attend and vote by driving through the library parking lot between 3-3:30 p.m. Friends volunteers will be manning the voting box. They will hand you a ballot; the ballot will be put directly into a ballet box by the voter. Dues will be collected if appropriate.
