Let’s Light up Matlacha a holiday treat

According to Matlacha resident Billie Young, Let’s Light up Matlacha went off without a hitch Friday, Dec. 10, on the corner of Pine Island Road and Island Avenue.
“The turn-out was awesome, because there was a chance for people to talk, mingle and meet neighbors. Santa Claus had so many pictures taken with the people there,” Young said.
Santa, who was played by Michael Rose again this year, hardly had a chance to sit down, Young said.
The money collected was enough to cover such expenses as the star on the big tree, provided by Jake Sadlak.
Matlacha is shining brightly for the holiday season, said Young. The original dolphins are up and lighting the bridge at night. She said she’s very thankful to LCEC and Mike Gordon’s committee for that.
“In addition to the dolphins, the annual Christmas trees lit up Matlacha Friday night, for the third year in a row. Cookies were passed around and Santa Mike visited and had pictures taken with the little ones and also with many moms and dads. Holiday music provided the background mood and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office always provides safe patrolling on Pine Island Road, sponsored by Bert’s Bar,” Young said.
The Christmas Tree Committee would also like to thank George Williamson for donating the use of his lot and chief engineer Jake Sadlak for his time with the addition of a star for the top of the large tree, and Barnhill Seafood Market for providing the needed electricity.
“None of this would be possible each year without the love and support of our wonderful community,” Young said.
