Beacon of Hope activities for December

The Beacon of Hope on Pine Island has scheduled the following activities and programs for the month of December and early January. The Beacon is open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 .pm. Computers, fax and printer are available for use.

• The Food Bank Saturdays at 9:30 a.m. The Emergency Pantry is available when the Beacon is open.

• Wellness Committee – Monday, Dec. 13, at 10 a.m.

• Strange Arrangement – Monday, 6-7:30 p.m. Lessons given. A musical experience.

• Funds/Communications meeting – to be announced.

• Grants Committee meeting – Thursday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 p.m.

• Pine Island Cares – Wednesday, Jan. 12, at 10 a.m.

• Homelessness Committee – Tuesday, Dec. 21, at 11 a.m.

• Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group – first and third Thursdays, at 2:30 p.m. Call 239-437-3007 to register.

• Ancient Remedy Wellness class – Thursdays starting at 6 p.m.

• Beacon Madness Fundraiser, a board with $250 of scratch-offs and a $100 bill. Tickets were sold for $5 during November with the drawing at Low Key Tiki today, Dec. 1, at 4:30 p.m.

• GED classes are on Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

• ESOL classes are held every Wednesday, 6-8 p.m., at the Beacon; Monday, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Park; and Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Shrimp Farm.

• Citizenship classes are held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Fire Station and on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

• The Attic (Thrift Store) will be open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Donations may be brought during these times. 50% off “almost everything” Tuesday, Dec. 21.

Wellness articles are now available on our website, beaconofhopepineisland.com. These articles are changed every couple of weeks. Past articles are archived and can be read at any time. The present series is on Mental Health. There are upcoming articles on PTSD, isolation, anxiety, depression and abuse — how to recognize the symptoms, what can be done about it and how you can help. Stay tuned.

Holiday Activities

• Holiday House, at the Tarpon Lodge, Friday, Dec. 3, from 5-9 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 4, from 4-9 p.m.; and Sunday, Family Day, from 1-4 p.m.

• If you would like Christmas dinner delivered on Christmas Eve, call the Beacon at 239-283-5123 and register. The Beacon will also bring stockings for your children. Just give us their name, age and gender. Please call if you can cook a dish, put the meals together on the morning of Christmas Eve or deliver them.

• Christmas morning there will be a Food Bank at 9:30 a.m. at the Beacon.
